Jerry Carnell Special Commendation Health & Safety Award
We are strong supporters of the Jerry Carnell Special Commendation Health & Safety Award. The prestigious award was created by RenewableUK in recognition of Jerry Carnell, who sadly passed away in 2015. Jerry was a highly respected professional who made a substantial contribution to raising health and safety standards in the sector. He was well known to the team at RCG as someone who championed many health and safety projects and actively shared his knowledge and experience through industry safety groups.
This award is given each year to an individual whose long term contribution has made a substantive and positive difference to enhancing health and safety in the renewable energy industry. Recipients can come from a wide range of backgrounds, demonstrating that health and safety is not simply the purview of specialists. However they need to demonstrate sustained leadership and commitment to health and safety.
This year the award went to David Griffith, the Head of Environment Health and Safety at Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy. David has worked on health and safety issues for decades, ever since the inception of the wind industry. As one of the first Environmental, Health and Safety officers employed within the new industry, he was instrumental in ensuring that the industry started life on a strong safety footing, and has been a driving force ever since.
This well deserved award was presented to David at RenewableUK’s 14th International Health & Safety Conference 2018, 24 January 2018, Glasgow, Scotland, by RCG’s Alan Chivers, who is Chair of the RenewableUK Health and Safety Working Group.
