RCG broadens EIA capabilities with Chris Lee appointment in Taipei
9 August 2021Taipei, Taiwan – The Renewables Consulting Group (RCG), a sector specialist advisory firm, has appointed Chris Lee as a Senior Associate in the firm’s Taiwan office.
An environmental engineer, Lee is helping lead this burgeoning sector in the transition to a low-carbon economy. He is an experienced project manager performing Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and evaluations for numerous offshore wind sites and other energy projects. Lee’s background will help RCG support increased EIA activity due to the vast offshore wind activity now occurring in Taiwan.
According to the Taiwan government, the Bureau of Energy will hold an auction for 3 GW of offshore wind capacity from 2022 to 2024. These offshore wind projects will be delivered between 2026 to 2031 at a rate of 1.5 GW per year – resulting in 9 GW of offshore wind. As a result, Taiwan is expected to reach 14.7 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2031, which would exceed near-term targets set by Asia-Pacific (APAC) countries such as South Korea (12 GW by 2030) and Japan (10 GW by 2030).
Lee comes to RCG from Sinotech, where he was Project Manager for Offshore Wind. Before that, he was an environmental engineer for Taiwan Green, where he assisted business and industry in their carbon and greenhouse gas reduction efforts.
Commenting on the news, Laura Evertsen, Director for the APAC region said:
“We are delighted that Chris has joined the RCG team at what is an extremely exciting time for the offshore wind industry in Taiwan. With a background in environmental engineering and deep experience in environmental impact assessments, most recently for offshore wind in Taiwan, Chris’ skillset means that RCG is well-placed to support the growth of offshore wind in the third round development in Taiwan. Together with the existing team members in the Taipei office we are very excited with the breadth of skills and services that the Taiwan team can now offer.” – Laura Evertsen, Director
