Taipei, Taiwan – The Renewables Consulting Group (RCG), a sector specialist advisory firm, has appointed Charles Luh as a Principal in the firm’s Taiwan office.
With an extensive track record in technical and commercial roles, Luh combines a deep understanding of offshore wind development with a strong background in project management in numerous renewable energy technologies, including offshore wind.
Luh’s appointment will help RCG support the enormous amount of offshore wind activity that is expected shortly in Taiwan – which is quickly becoming the most attractive offshore wind market in the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region. Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs recently announced that the Bureau of Energy will hold an auction for 3 GW of offshore wind capacity from 2022 to 2024. These offshore wind projects will be delivered between 2026 to 2031 at a rate of 1.5 GW per year – resulting in 9 GW of offshore wind. As a result, Taiwan is expected to reach 14.7 GW of installed offshore wind capacity by 2031, which would exceed the 12 GW target in 2030 announced by South Korea earlier this year and the 10 GW target previously set by Japan.
Luh comes to RCG from TÜV Rheinland, where he was Business Development Manager and Project Manager for Offshore Wind. Before that, Luh served as an engineer for Jan De Nul Group on Phase II of the Formosa 1 Offshore Windfarm, Taiwan’s first offshore wind project.
Commenting on the news, Gareth Lewis, managing director for the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region said:
“This is an extraordinary time for offshore wind in Taiwan and we are thrilled to have Charles joining at such a critical time. With an extensive understanding of the technical and commercial aspects of offshore wind project development; he will be an invaluable asset to our clients.” – Gareth Lewis, Managing Director
The Taiwan office – along with RCG’s office in Tokyo – is leading the acceleration of the firm’s Asia-Pacific platform in order to realise its goal of providing a top-tier market intelligence, management consulting, and technical advisory service to the renewable sector and delivering long-term value for clients.
